Winner of Swizzle Masters 2013 revealed

After a thrilling year of creative cocktails and mind-boggling mixology, the winner of the Wenneker Swizzle Masters 2013 has been revealed as Matteo Corsalini.

Matteo Corsalini has been named the winner of The Wennker Swizzle Masters 2013 for his Scotch Sipper cocktail

This year, The Spirits Business has again partnered with Wenneker liqueurs to discover the best bartending brains in the business for the virtual cocktail competition.

The rules of the game were simple – throughout the year, bartenders from across the world were invited to submit recipes online based on a different theme and base spirit each month. All had to be original and all had to include at least a dash of Wenneker liqueur.

These recipes were then mixed by a range of experienced London bartenders, meaning that each cocktail would also be judged by how easily it could be replicated.

A diverse range of cocktails were presented to the judges each month, yet none impressed so much as Corsalini’s Scotch Sipper, which was submitted in March’s Scotch Sipper round.

The subtly sophisticated and delicious mix consisted of 15 Year Old Glenfiddich Scotch whisky, visciolata del cardinal, Wenneker Crème de Cacao blanc, and two drops of lavender bitters.

Having won its initial entry round in March, the cocktail sailed through October’s semi-final round, maintaining its allure down to the final stage facing the competition’s most prestigious judging panel to date.

One of the panel, renowned bartender and founder of Worship Street Whistling Shop and Fluid movement, Tom Aske, remarked: “This was a well-balanced and simply executed cocktail that beautifully accentuates the flavour profile of the base ingredients.”

While deputy editor of The Spirits Business Becky Paskin, said: “For me, Corsalini’s Sipper Club was heads above the rest, being balanced, nicely presented and combining some interesting flavours in a way that still allowed the beauty and finesse of Glenfiddich 15 Year Old to shine through.”

However, the newly crowned Swizzle Master faced some stiff competition in the final round, with Sergiu Cucuiet’s Belle Madam, and Radoslav Anuskevic’s Love Trap coming in second and third respecticely.
