Ridley Scott’s son directs Johnnie Walker ad
Diageo has enlisted music video director Jake Scott, son of film director Ridley Scott, to create a new TV advertisement for Johnnie Walker in China.
Jake Scott filmed Johnnie Walker Black’s new commercial in real time, without CGI
Filmed in Bangkok, Thailand, the advert has been created to engage with a younger Chinese demographic by communicatin the depth of flavour available in Johnnie Walker Black Label.
The 60, 30 and 15 second adverts feature the brand’s iconic striding man from its Where Flavour Is King campaign, which first launched in September 2012.
Having ordered a Johnnie Walker Black Label, the striding man is blasted with a visual burst of exploding fruit and spices, signifying the flavours present in the blended Scotch.
Scott, who is known for his music video work for Ridley Scott Associates and its subdivision Black Dog Films – particularly with Oaisis, Lily Allen, REM and The Strokes – filmed the advert in real time without the use of CGI.
Mark Williams, creative director of advertising at LOVE, which created the advert, said: “The advert also presented us with an opportunity to place the striding man – the embodiment of Johnnie Walker – in a social setting. So, he’s at the centre of the commercial, but he still keeps his anonymity and a sense of mystique.”
The TV advertisement in China will be supported with additional outdoor advertising.
