Elijah Wood and his DJ partner Zach Cowie deomnstrate the new Bushmills whiskey barrel headphonesThe Lord of the Rings actor-turned-DJ created the handmade headphones in partnership with the Diageo-owned distillery and production group Grado Labs.
Crafted in part from the wood used by Bushmills to age its Irish whiskey, the headphones reportedly offer “greater clarity and deeper bass”.
“Working with Bushmills Irish Whiskey on this project enabled Zach and I to take our shared love of music and build upon it,” said Wood. “Between us, Grado, and Bushmills Irish Whiskey, we each have our own aesthetic, and it is so gratifying to see it all come together.”
Wood and Cowie first partnered with Diageo for its inaugural Bushmills Live festival, held at the Belfast distillery in 2012, which also featured performances from Snow Patrol and The Staves.
The festival was launched to cement the distillery’s association with the music industry, which has since seen other limited edition musical items created from Bushmills barrels.
In October 2012, Bushmills auctioned a guitar made from whiskey barrels, owned by Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon, for charity.
