Legendary photographer captures essence of Scotland for The Macallan
The Macallan whisky has enlisted famed photographer Elliot Erwitt to “capture the spirit of the Scottish heartland” for the fourth edition of its Masters of Photography series.
Macallan’s Masters of Photography: Elliott Erwitt edition captures Scotland’s traditions and idiosyncrasies, as well as one of Erwitt’s favourite subjects – dogs.
The Masters of Photography: Elliot Erwitt Edition features 58 single cask whiskies paired with 58 different prints.
A bespoke picture book containing 150 images shot by the photographer, entitled Elliott Erwitt’s Great Scottish Adventure, also accompanies the pack, while each whisky is bottled in a 375ml handmade glass flask.
Shot against the Scotland’s Highlands and Islands, Glasgow and Edinburgh, Erwitt’s collection showcases the traditions of Scottish people. Each whisky in the collection was selected by The Macallan whisky-maker, Bob Dalgarno, to interpret the essence of its corresponding image.
“The incredible richness and depth of character found in every Macallan whisky lends itself perfectly to this year’s Masters of Photography offering,” said Dalgarno.
“Selecting 58 individual single cask malt whiskies to bring to life Elliott’s 58 favourite images of his great Scottish adventure was wonderfully challenging – tasting the image through the whisky and whisky through the image on such an unprecedented scale was inspiring.”
Erwitt had previously taken iconic images of Jackie Kennedy at her husband’s funeral and Marilyn Monroe on the set of The Misfits.
“Elliott is legendary in the world of photography and is one of my all-time favourite photographers,” commented Ken Grier, director of malts for brand-owner The Edrington Group.
“With his playful and witty juxtapositions, we couldn’t think of anyone better to capture the quirkiness of Scottish character and the heartland of The Macallan.”
Only 35 of the print and whisky pairings will be available, making a total global release of 2,030 packs.
Photographers who have previously featured in The Macallan Masters of Photography series include Annie Leibovitz, Albert Watson and Rankin.
The Masters of Photography: Elliot Erwitt Edition is now available worldwide at an RRP of US$1,500.
Last month, The Macallan released the latest instalment of its 1824 series, a no-age-statement malt bottled in Lalique crystal called The Macallan M.
