First ever British blended whisky released
A UK distillery has created the first British blended whisky, bringing together a range of whiskies from the British Isles.
While the Scotch market is brimming with blended malts, The One is the first British blended whisky
The Lakes Distillery, Cumbria’s first whisky distillery for over 100 years, has launched The One British blended whisky, an expression described as “slightly smoky, sweet and fruity, nutty, with hints of spice”.
The One will be sold in The Lakes Distillery online shop as well as a small number of outlets in the UK.
The distillery has also announced that it will be looking to develop the brand in export markets and is in discussions with partners in a number of markets in Europe and Asia.
Paul Currie, managing director of The Lakes Distillery, said: “We have kept the bottle, branding and even the name of The One tightly under wraps so we were incredibly proud to launch it at last.
“The One and The Lakes Distillery are very strong Cumbrian brands and we hope to build on this in both national and international markets so that both become synonymous with Cumbria.”
In addition to this launch, The Lakes Distillery will be looking to start distilling its own Cumbrian malt whisky and gin next spring.
The spirits producer has recently created a ‘Founders’ Club’, where members will receive a bottle of maturing whisky from the first 100 casks of Lakes Malt every year for 10 years from 2015.
The One is bottled at 40% abv and comes with an RRP of £29.95.
