Stephen Teeling leaves Beam for Teeling Whiskey Co

Stephen Teeling, marketing manager for Irish Whiskey at Beam Inc has left his position to join his brother’s own burgeoning whiskey company.

Stephen Teeling has left his role as Beam’s marketing manager for Irish Whiskey to join The Teeling Whiskey Co.

Teeling was promoted to the role at Beam in January 2012 when the US-based multinational acquired the Cooley Distillery, founded by his father John Teeling in 1987.

Having remained in the role for a year to oversee the relaunch of the Kilbeggan brand, Teeling has now left the company to join brother Jack at The Teeling Whiskey Co as sales and marketing director.

“Stephen has been instrumental in the re-launch of Kilbeggan under our new Kilbeggan Distilling Company umbrella, including the delivery of radical new packaging, has successfully upgraded the visitor experience at Kilbeggan leading to record visitor numbers, driven the brand’s new digital presence, and established a US ambassador network,” said Michael Cockram, senior global marketing director at Beam.

“Having helped achieve these milestones and transition the Cooley brands into Beam, Stephen feels it is now a logical time to explore new entrepreneurial opportunities. We have greatly valued his passion and expertise, and we wish him all the best in his next venture.”

The Teeling Whiskey Co, founded by Jack Teeling, former managing director of Cooley, has been steadily releasing a series of Irish whiskey bottlings over the past 12 months, including Teeling Irish Whiskey and Hybrid 1, with the latest being the first in a series of Vintage Reserve Single Malts.

While currently only a bottling firm, Jack has plans to erect a distillery in Dublin in the near future. “We aim to get back into the distilling game to ensure a consistent supply of whiskey for the future and allow us to be leaders in creating a bright new future for Irish and Dublin whiskey,” he announced in February.

Stephen’s replacement at Beam is yet to be found, although the company hopes to announce a successor “very soon”.
