VIDEO: The World’s Most Expensive Cocktail?
The preparation Australian bartender Joel Heffernan puts into creating his take on the World’s Most Expensive Cocktail, is so intense it takes two days from start to finish.
The Winston video worlds most expensive cocktail
From the sugar-spun green chartreuse vine garnish to the use of a AUS$150,000 (£98,800), 150-year-old Cognac, The Winston cocktail is unique in every aspect.
Heffernan, who will attempt to take the Guinness World Records title from fellow bartender Salvatore Calabrese, explained that the AUS$12,500 (£8,200) a glass cocktail was not just about the huge price tag, but giving people the chance to drink history.
“Once you understand the significance and heritage of the Cognac – which is older than the published history of evolution – when you think about something like that and the cost in caring for the Cognac involved, [the cocktail] is worth the price alone,” he said.
In the below video Heffernan speaks with Australian newspaper The Age about what work went into making the drink, what breaking the world record means to him, and how significant the drink is.
