La Maison Fontaine releases chocolate absinthe

French absinthe producer La Maison Fontaine has launched two new products to its range, including a chocolate absinthe liqueur.

La Maison Fontaine Blanc, Verte and Chocolat Absinthes

La Maison Fontaine Chocolat, which carries a 25% abv, is based on a Crème de Cacao recipe found in 1920s recipe books at the brand’s Pontarlier distillery in France.

Described as having ‘a sweet richness combined with apparent notes of absinthe and chocolate’, the liqueur is being given an international rollout this month.

Also joining the La Maison Fontaine range is a traditional verte absinthe, with a 55% abv made with natural herbal colouration from the Pontarlier-grown grande absinthe plant.

Both products join the Fontaine Blanche to complete the brand’s absinthe line-up.

Allan Gage, tastemaker for La Maison Fontaine and owner of Sweet & Chilli bar and cocktail consultancy, who has developed a signature cocktail list for the new products, said: “Outside of gin, absinthe is probably the most exciting category in the industry, and after playing around with these products it’s unbelievable the versatility that both Chocolat and Verte offer.

“Chocolat in particular has enabled us to develop drinks which are some of the most exciting drinks we have created in the last five years.”

The complete range, owned by Metropolitan Spirits, will be rolled out globally and supported by extensive bar training, fountain support plus social, digital and PR campaigns.
