VIDEO: Kilbeggan creates Halfway Day holiday

Irish whiskey Kilbeggan has today (Sept 17) launched a new annual holiday in the US – Halfway Day – celebrating just 6 months to go until St. Patrick’s Day.

Kilbeggan’s Halfway Day falls on 17 September in 2012

To mark the inaugural holiday, Kilbeggan has commissioned a comedy trailer following one man as he tries to unravel the clues as to what Halfway Day is.

With the US the most important market for Kilbeggan (sales of Irish whiskey grew 23.6% in 2011), the brand partnered with comedy website Funny Or Die, to produce the exclusive video trailer.

”We’re tired of our fans having to wait an entire year between each St. Patrick’s Day,” said Bob Gorman, director of marketing world whiskies at Beam, which has trademarked the name Halfway Day. “As one of Ireland’s best-kept secrets, we’re encouraging consumers to say enough is enough! Put your favorite green shirt to use now, grab a glass of Kilbeggan and join us in celebrating all things Irish on Halfway Day.”

In addition to the video, Kilbeggan is hosting Halfway Day events in major cities across the country, including Boston, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia and San Francisco.
