Just like our proud Olympians, bartenders across the world are being invited to leave their own legacy in Bacardi’s 2014 Legacy Cocktail Competition.

Now in its fourth year, the competition is inviting bartenders to submit a recipe for a “balanced, refreshing, appealing and enduring drink” that has the potential to become a classic cocktail.

“Bacardi rum has undeniably inspired some of the world’s greatest cocktails,” said Liam Newton, marketing director at Bacardi. “We want our Bacardi Legacy Cocktail Competition to be considered the premier platform for bartenders to showcase their creativity in coming up with the next Bacardi Legacy cocktail that will stand the test of time.

“The competition has been created for truly talented bar professionals from all types of outlet and all areas around the UK and keeps growing in popularity, demonstrating Bacardi‘s position at the forefront of modern day cocktail culture.”

Interested bartenders are required to submit their recipe online at www.bacardilegacy.com by 1 October. Shortlisted entries from each country will be invited to recreate their classic cocktail in a regional heat, before going through to a national final.

The three bartenders demonstrating the most promise will be given a set budget and six months to market their cocktail before the overall national winner is announced.

The global final will take place in February 2014.

Be quick to submit your entry though – Bacardi is giving away a trunk filled with rare rums worth £500 to one of the first 200 entrants.

This year’s winner was Shingo Gokan from New York, with his cocktail ‘Speak Low’.
