Writer launches craft whisky association
Whisky writer Dominic Roskrow is to launch a new association designed to represent the interests of boutique and craft whisky distillers later this year.
The British and International Distillers’ Association (BIDA), erected by Roskrow and marketing director and wife Sally, will provide a trade forum for members, organise tasting events and exhibitions, market a positive image of craft distilling and lobby on issues relevant to small producers.
“These are exciting times for distilling and it is clear that there is a need for a dedicated Association to provide a UK representation for the growing wave of craft distillers,” Dominic Roskrow said.
“In America there are more than 400 craft distillers making a wide variety of dynamic drinks and while the United Kingdom will never sustain that number, there is a growing surge of interest in boutique distilling, not just here but across the world.”
Officially launching on 1 September, BIDA is already inviting distillers producing under 140,000 litres of spirit per year to apply for membership.
It will also seek associate partners in the pub, restaurant and hotel sectors, as well as other trade organisations, to help champion craft distillers.
