In addition to over 35 national finalists jetting to Cuba on 3-7 June for the last round of the competition, two ‘wild card’ entries will also be chosen through the brand’s Facebook page.
Yves Schladenhaufen, marketing director at Havana Club International S.A., said: “The reaction (on Facebook) has been phenomenal, further demonstrating the event’s cult following around the world.”
Judged by a panel of recognised industry names, including Ian Burrell, founder of the UK RumFest, Henry Besant, managing director of The Worldwide Cocktail Club, Jeff ‘Beachbum’ Berry, and Havana Club master distiller Asbel Morales, the competition’s finalists will be required to make a selection of cocktails demonstrating the “versatility of the three pillars of the Havana Club range – Añejo 3 años, Añejo 7 años and the Havana Club Selección de Maestros”.
They will be judged on not only the quality and appearance of the drink, but also the bartender’s knowledge, mixing techniques and ability to engage with their customers, creating an authentic bar atmosphere and experience.
Schladenhaufen added: “The 9th Havana Club International Cocktail Grand Prix will once again showcase the artistry of some of the best bartenders from around the globe.”
