“Hide & Speak” with Four Roses
By Marinel FitzSimonsFour Roses bourbon is running a pop-up Prohibition themed bar in North London’s Shaker & Company throughout February this year.
The pop-up, called “Hide & Speak”, is located in the small, entirely candlelit basement of the cocktail bar/school for the flair enthusiast, shaker & company near Warren Street tube in London.
The cramped conditions (the bar claims to fit 30, but it would be a very close 30) and dusky twilight of the candles lends a very cosy, clandestine air to the place, emphasized further by the “furniture” which is, in fact, up-turned Four Roses wooden packing boxes and bourbon barrels. The thoroughness of the theme is continued with the drinks menu which offers a selection of Prohibition-esque drinks, such as the ‘Prohibition Punch’ which is served in a dry-ice steaming teapot.
True to the ethos of Shaker & Company, there is a series of Masterclasses available focusing on bourbon and the cocktails featured in the pop up.
The bar is cosy and, thanks to the requirement of a password to get in (you can find out what it is here: www.shakerandcompany.co.uk), has a genuinely intimate feel to it.
To boot, the cocktails are great, and it’s always fun to drink hard booze out of a porcelain tea cup.
