Flaming fantastic
By Marinel FitzSimonsDrake & Morgan’s bars are celebrating one of the 70s finer fads; flambé cuisine.
Customers can sample a three course flambé menu at all five of the Drake & Morgan venues for £27.95, or £45.95 if paired with cocktails.
The menu starts with an à la carte starter, followed by either beef Stroganoff flambéed with brandy, a Steak Diane with Cognac, or flambéed scampi. Desert is a choice of Crêpe Suzette or Banana Flambé.
Not even the cocktail menu is spared the flames; first up in the food and cocktail pairings is a Flaming Your Thai which contains five year old rum, dry Curaçao, pink grapefruit, orgeat syrup, egg white, orange bitters and flaming limes. This is followed by The Starry Scamp; Chardonnay, Tanqueray gin, crème de pêche and a cardamom foam. The “pièce de la résistence”, however, is the Blood Orange Blazer, with a theatrically poured flaming cognac, dry Curaçao, blood orange and a touch of cinnamon.
The flambé menu is available Monday to Fridays, 6pm-10pm.
