MidWest Rum Festival returns to Chicago for 2017

US-based seminar and event programme The Rum Lab has announced the dates for the third annual MidWest Rum Festival, which will return to Chicago this coming April.

The Rum Lab has announced the third annual MidWest Rum Festival

Hosted by The Rum Lab, which aims to become the official rum expo provider throughout north America, MidWest Rum Festival will take place on Saturday 8 April, and will be divided into two sessions running from 12pm until 5:30pm.

A one-hour ‘spirit industry session’ beginning at 12pm gives industry professionals the opportunity to network with brand representatives, attend training seminars, sample a variety of rums and mingle with industry colleagues.

Afterwards, a ‘rum aficionado grand tasting session’ will take place, featuring tasting opportunities, brand seminars, mixology demos and artist booths.

Guest speakers include Bryan Davis, founder of distilled spirits company Lost Spirits and inventor of the Davis method, which replicates the effects of barrel ageing of distilled spirits in a laboratory.

Joining Davis is Richard Seale, master distiller and blender at Barbados’ Foursquare Distillery; Jerald O’Kennard, drinks journalist; and Nicholas Feris, founder of Seattle’s first rum society The Rum Collective.

MidWest Rum Festival will take place at Logan Square Auditorium, 2539 N Kedzie Blvd, Chicago.

Early bird tickets for the spirit industry session cost US$25, rising to US$35 on the week of the event.

Early bird tickets for the rum aficionado grand tasting session cost US$70, rising to US$90 on the week of the event.

The RumLab team also hosts national rum festival Taste of Rum Puerto Rico, as week as California and New York-based rum festivals.
