Milroys of Soho releases own-label whiskies

London’s oldest whisky shop, Milroys of Soho, has unveiled new branding for the first time in more than 50 years as it debuts four “exclusive” whiskies under the label.

Milroys has introduced four new whiskies

The four whiskies comprise three single cask editions  – Ardmore 2008, Glentauchers 2007 and Blair Athol 1988as well as an eight year-old exclusive Milroys blend.

The new 8-year-old blend is intended for “anyone from whisky experts to first time drammers”, and is crafted from a blend of Scotch specially chosen by the Milroys team.

The nose is said to offer “rich and powerful dark fruits with a hint of vanilla” while on the palate “initial sweetness is dominant”, followed by “clotted cream, rich sultanas with a touch of kiln embers”. The finish is “smooth, with a good balance of European oak spice and sweet barley notes”.

Aged in an ex-Bourbon cask, The Ardmore 2010 boasts a “soft hint of salinity, gentle smoke with overtones of honey, sweet, earthy barley notes and vanilla” on the nose, with a “semi-sweet” finish of “floral and smoky richness”. Just 272 bottles are available for purchase.

The Glentauchers 2008 was aged in an ex-Vendamina Sherry cask, and is said to be a “rich and complex whisky”. It has a “nose reminiscent of Christmas”, with an “intense and powerful, fruit forward” palate and a “lingering cinnamon spice” finish. Only 769 bottles will be made available.

The final whisky, Blair Athol 1988 was aged in an ex-Bourbon cask and is described as “an exceptionally special and rare whisky given its age and cask finish”. Only 208 bottles of this whisky will be available.

On the nose the expression offers “sourdough bread and vanilla richness”, with “buttery orchard fruits combined with savoury note” on the palate. On the finish, “creaminess is dominant with hints of green apples and pears, followed by a soft lemongrass undertone”.

Of the collection, Milroys CEO, Simo, said: “We’re really proud to put our names to these four brilliant whiskies which are all distinguished and special in their own way. It’s not been an easy task but we think we have four whiskies that would suit anyone from a total novice to whisky expert.”

The new Milroys branding was created by design agency Good, and will be reflected across a new-look store and shopfront for Milroys, as well as on the four new whiskies, a new website, and all marketing materials.

The four new whiskies will be available from September 29 exclusively from Milroys of Soho’s Greek Street Shop and online at www.shop.milroys.co.uk.
