Kentucky distillery ‘run out of stock’

Kentucky-based American whiskey producer Michter’s Distillery has “run out of stock” of its US*1 Sour Mash Whiskey, as it struggles to keep up with escalating demand.

Michter’s Distillery has been forced to allocate its whiskey as stocks run low

The distillery admitted it has been forced to allocate stocks of the company’s US*1 line of whiskeys, and halt distribution of its Sour Mash expression altogether until next year both within the US and internationally.

However, Michter’s Distillery stressed that the measures were only temporary and that US*1 Sour Mash will be back “in supply for 2016”.

The distillery said in a statement: “Michter’s Distillery strives to offer spirits in a way that enables whiskey drinkers around the world to enjoy our product.

“However, given the demand, our US*1 line of whiskeys has needed to be allocated.

“In the case of Michter’s US*1 Sour Mash Whiskey, we have run out of stock for the remainder of 2015.

“No further cases will be shipped from the distillery to US or international distributors until next year.

“While we know this may disappoint our loyal customers, please know that it is only temporary. We plan to have US*1 Sour Mash in supply for 2016.”

Michter’s is not the only distillery that has been blighted by stock shortages of late, with Buffalo Trace experiencing Bourbon shortages as a result of booming demand for the spirit.

In addition, as Irish whiskey continues to be the fastest growing spirits category in the world, the chairman of the Irish Whiskey Association said stocks are already short.
