GlenDronach releases first peated Scotch whisky

Speyside-based distillery GlenDronach has added three new expressions to its range, including the brand’s first-ever peated Scotch whisky.

Owned by The BenRiach Distillery Company, the brand also released a 19-year-old Madeira cask-finish single malt, as well as a cask strength bottling.

Made using peated malted barley and bottled without an age statement, GlenDronach Peated (46% abv) has been aged in Bourbon casks ahead of a second maturation in Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez sherry casks.

It is said to have a flaovur of oak spices, heather, honey develop barley sugars and white pepper.

Initially aged in European oak casks, GlenDronach 19 Years Old Madeira Cask Finish (46% abv) has been finished in Madeira hogsheads.

GlenDronach describes the whisky as having a flavour of cinnamon-dusted tarte Tatin, green apple skin, stem ginger and candied peel.

Next in the range is GlenDronach Cask Strength Batch 5, which has been matured in a combination of Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso Sherry casks and bottled at 55.3% abv.

It tasting notes include Demerara sugar-glazed dark fruits, apricot syrup, stem ginger and vanilla.

“There is the unique smoky sweetness of the new Peated expression, the richly fragrant Madeira finish and the signature robust sherry character of the Cask Strength batch five,” said Alistair Walker, sales director at The Benriach Distillery Company.

“Everyone here at GlenDronach is amazed by these three magnificent expressions, and we know our customers worldwide will be too.”

Last month, GlenDronach released the twelfth batch of its single cask bottlings.
