Mount Gay acquires historic Barbados plantation
By Kristiane SherryRémy Cointreau-controlled Mount Gay Distilleries has acquired the historic Mount Gay plantation for the development of a “terroir” rum.
Mount Gay Distilleries is set to introduce a terroir rum after acquiring a historic plot of landMount Gay Distilleries acquired the 134-hectare plot in January 2015. The land, located in the Northern Parish of St Lucy, Barbados, is the original 18th Century domain managed by Sir John Gay Alleyne.
“We saw this unique opportunity as a sign to pursue our goal to create a true luxury rum brand,” said Valérie Chapoulaud-Floquet, Rémy Cointreau Group CEO.
“Here in Barbados, we now gather together all the elements to foster the legacy of Mount Gay Distilleries: authenticity, history and terroir, with a single-estate rum, a genuine Barbados historical ‘château’.
