Mount Gay acquires historic Barbados plantation

Rémy Cointreau-controlled Mount Gay Distilleries has acquired the historic Mount Gay plantation for the development of a “terroir” rum.

Mount Gay Distilleries is set to introduce a terroir rum after acquiring a historic plot of land

Mount Gay Distilleries acquired the 134-hectare plot in January 2015. The land, located in the Northern Parish of St Lucy, Barbados, is the original 18^th Century domain managed by Sir John Gay Alleyne.

“We saw this unique opportunity as a sign to pursue our goal to create a true luxury rum brand,” said Valérie Chapoulaud-Floquet, Rémy Cointreau Group CEO.

“Here in Barbados, we now gather together all the elements to foster the legacy of Mount Gay Distilleries: authenticity, history and terroir, with a single-estate rum, a genuine Barbados historical ‘château’.
