Glenrothes backs record-breaking Burns Supper
By Annie HayesA new Guinness World Record was set for the largest Burns Night Supper last week in an event sponsored by Scotch whisky brand The Glenrothes.
The Glenrothes has sponsored a world record-breaking Burns SupperThe single malt whisky’s producers, Berry Bros. & Rudd Spirits, was approached to become official spirits sponsor for Lord Provost’s Burns Supper 2015, which raised more than £102,000 for charity.
The event took place on Friday 23 January and was hosted by Glasgow’s Lord Provost Sadie Docherty at the city’s Thistle Hotel.
A total of 645 guests attended the Burns Night Supper making it the biggest of its kind ever recorded, with the achievement verified by Mark McKinley from Guinness World Records on the night.
To mark the occasion, The Glenrothes launched its newest expression, Vintage Reserve.
Luke Tegner, brands marketing director of The Glenrothes added: “We were delighted to be asked by The Lord Provost herself to supply the whisky for this exceptional event. I think it’s fair to say that the evening was nothing short of officially amazing. Just like The Glenrothes.”
All proceeds raised from the night will be donated to the Lord Provost’s Malawi Fund, the Lord Provost’s Charity Funds and Bobath Scotland – a Scottish charity devoted to improving the quality of life for children and adults with cerebral palsy.
The Lord Provost said: “I’m thrilled my Burns Supper proved to be a record-breaker on two counts.
“We smashed the million pound mark, totalling all the money raised for charity over the years, at these fundraising suppers.
“We also earned our place in the Guinness World Records for hosting the world’s largest Burns Supper.”
