Maxxium UK MD leaves to join Edrington

The managing director of Maxxium UK will leave the company after 16 years to take up a newly created position with one of the firm’s shareholders, Edrington.

Maxxium UK’s MD Huw Pennell will join Edrington as European regional managing director from April

Huw Pennell, who has worked as Maxxium UK’s managing director for 10 years, will join Edrington as European regional managing director, effective from 1 February.

A replacement MD for Maxxium UK has not yet been disclosed.

“This new role will deliver a new level of focus on this large and complex region whilst creating management structure consistent with the rest of the world,” said Scott McCroskie, Edrington group commercial director.

“Huw’s knowledge, experience and leadership style will be of great benefit to Edrington.

“We are excited to welcome him to the business and look forward to building on the success of our company.”

Pennell boasts more than 28 years of experience within the drinks industry, including his former position of marketing director at Maxxium.

He is also part of the executive board of the Wine and Spirits Trade Association (WSTA) and was named Scottish Marketer of the Year in 2007.

“I am immensely proud to have been a part of this business from the very beginning,” commented Pennell. “Maxxium UK houses a portfolio of great brands and a strong team of talented and experienced people that will continue to deliver exciting plans across the portfolio and ensure the company’s continued success.”

In October last year, Maxxium Travel Retail announced it will no longer operate from 1 April 2015 when Edrington and Beam Suntory will end their joint venture to create their own travel retail businesses.
