Baileys tops Waitrose Christmas drinks poll
By Melita KielyIrish cream liqueur Baileys is the UK’s favourite alcoholic Christmas beverage to drink neat, according to the results of a national survey by supermarket Waitrose.
Baileys has come joint-first in a poll on the UK’s favourite Christmas tippleThe Festive Favourites poll by Waitrose Cellar found that out of 1,000 adults questioned, a fifth (20%) voted Baileys as their top tipple putting it in first place along with red wine.
When it came to mixed drinks, homemade cocktails were the nation’s favourite drink, with Irish Coffee (26%) being beaten only by Buck’s Fizz (32%).
“Food and drink are the centre of Christmas Day celebrations, bringing families together to create lasting memories,” said Robert McCarthy, head of Waitrose Cellar.

Furthermore, the study showed that the majority (65%) of those aged 25-54 preferred drinking Irish cream liqueur at Christmas, while under 25s and over 55s enjoyed Champagne and red wine respectively.
