Woodford Reserve Double Oak rolled out in UK
By Becky PaskinTwo years after first launching in the States, Woodford Reserve is rolling out its Double Oak expression in the UK.
Woodford Reserve Double Oaked has finally arrived in the UK, two years after first being launched in the USThe small batch, twice-matured Bourbon was created in 2012 by master distiller Chris Morris in response to the “overwhelming success” of the Seasoned Oak Master’s Collection bottling.
Morris has used a reduced barrel proof version of Woodford Reserve Distiller’s Select and matured it further in a second barrel with an extreme toast and flash char for an additional six to 12 months.
In its first year, the Kentucky distillery sold out of its entire annual supply of Double Oak within one month, delaying the expression’s launch in the UK.
Morris said the US’s reception of Double Oak had been “phenomenal”, but claimed the group “hasn’t even scratched the surface in the US; it will be a great addition to the Woodford Reserve family”.
Although Double Oak is priced at US$49 in the US, a 25% premium to Distiller’s Select, brand owner Brown-Forman has found consumers are more than willing to trade up.
“Woodford Reserve Double Oak has leaped from special occasion in the US to everyday people serving it in Double Oak Mint Juleps and Old Fashioneds,” Morris said.
