Benromach doubles Scotch whisky storage capacity

Ten years after releasing its first single malt under Gordon & MacPhail, Benromach Distillery has celebrated the installation of two new warehouses.

Benromach Distillery has almost doubled its storage capacity

The traditional dunnage warehouses will enable the Moray distillery to almost double its storage capacity, from 8,000 to 15,000 casks at a time.

Their installation follows a £500,000 investment in the distillery to meet demand for Benromach from China, which boosted sales by 40% in 2012.

Former distillery worker Tom Anderson officially opened the warehouses yesterday with a commemorative plaque.

Michael Urquhart, managing director of Benromach owner Gordon & MacPhail, said: “These are exciting times for our classic, hand crafted single malt whisky but whisky is a long term business and the foundations for our success were laid down when Tom worked here and in the years before that.”

Benromach released its first single malt under Gordon & MacPhail in 2004, following almost 20 years of silence.
