Jonone has collaborated with Rhum Clément on its 125th anniversary limited edition bottleThe New York-born graffiti artist, of Dominican origin, has hand-designed the new limited edition Rhum Clément VSOP bottle with his unique, eye-catching street art.
Just 30,000 of the limited edition bottles have been created to commemorate the Martinique distillery’s 125th anniversary, which it celebrated in 2012.
The first JonOne bottles were made available in Martinique and France in autumn 2013, but the edition is now being rolled out to the UK, Italy and the US this summer as part of a launch tour with the artist.
Matthieu de Lassus, export manager of Rhum Clément, said: “In Martinique we produce a rum, but on the side we also have our own museum, Foundation Clément, where we support all the young modern artists from the Caribbean. We’ve been looking for some time for a way to create a link between the rum business and the art foundation, and we’ve found it with JonOne, one of the most famous graffiti artists in the world.”
Inside the bottles are Clément VSOP Rhum Agricole Vieux, which has been aged in virgin Limousin and re-charred Bourbon barrels for a minimum of four years.
Its flavour is described as delivering notes of “warm caramel, exotic spice, dried fruit aromas and a moderately off-dry body full of coconut and banana crème brûlée”, which Clément claims is perfect paired with limes and sugar syrup in the traditional Martinique cocktail, the Ti Punch.
The JonOne bottles will be available in global markets but in limited quantities, for an RRP of €40 in Europe.
JonOne added: “I wanted the bottle to be a celebration of street art. But I think my expression goes even further. It’s a dream that became reality when Isaw that Caribbean people were also sensitive to my work. I have done exhibitions in China, Russia and the USA…but something was still missing; at last I have been able to find a bit of home.”
Rhum Clément is distributed in the UK by Amathus Drinks.
