Law passed allowing guns in alcohol-serving restaurants

Louisiana lawmakers have passed a new piece of legislation that allows guns to be taken into alcohol-serving restaurants.

A new law has been passed in Louisiana allowing guns to be taken into restaurants that serve alcohol

House Bill 72, signed by Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal last week, allows off-duty police officers and concealed carry permit holders to take their weapons into restaurants that serve alcohol.

As a stipulation of the new law, such restaurants must make the majority of their profits from the sale of food.

Under present Louisiana law, citizens are not allowed to carry guns into establishments that serve alcohol.

However, House Bill 72 states that permit-holders who choose to take their weapons into such restaurants are prohibited from consuming alcohol.

Louisiana representative Henry Burns, who co-authored the bill, told KSLA News: “We live in a crazy world today, and if somebody happened to walk into a restaurant, I would sure love someone to intervene for my children or grandchildren if they came in harm’s way.”

Elsewhere in the US, Oklahoma City Council has recently granted a new gun range permission to serve alcohol on its premises.
