Appleton Estate debuts rare 30-year-old rum

Campari Group is to release a limited edition Appleton Estate rum, which has an age statement of 30 years but contains liquid matured for more than 50 years.

Appleton Estate 30 Year Old also contains liquid that has been aged for more than 50 years

Appleton Estate created the 30-year-old blend following “popular demand” for the original bottling, which first launched 10 years ago.

The new Appleton Estate 30 Year Old contains liquid aged for at least 30 years along with 50-year-old rum.

Created by master distiller Joy Spence, the “complex” rum has notes of “vibrant vanilla, toasted oak, ginger and warm cinnamon with a smooth and long, spiced honey finish”. It is recommended served neat or on the rocks.

“This Appleton Estate 30 Year Old is one of my favourite rums and really celebrates years of fine, handcrafted rums in the Nassau Valley of Jamaica,” said Spence.

“We are very proud of this limited blend, which includes a rare mix of rum dating back decades and demonstrates the high-quality rum Jamaica is known for.”

The Appleton Estate 30 Year Old is limited to 4,000 bottles globally. Each bottle has a suggested retail price of £399 (US$522).

It will be available to buy from the Whisky Exchange beginning December 2018.

In February last year, Appleton Estate honoured Spence’s 20th year at the distillery by launching a 25-year-old rum, named Appleton Estate Joy Anniversary Blend.
