Ex-Bladnoch distiller takes charge at Rosebank
By Rupert HohwielerScotch whisky Rosebank has seen a change of distillery manager with Bladnoch’s Neil Bulloch taking over duties from Malcolm Rennie.

Rennie had held the position at Rosebank since February 2022, helping to bring the distillery back to life as it reopened to the public last summer following a 30-year hiatus. Rennie oversaw the whole production process; from new make spirit to its cask selection and maturation.
Before Rosebank, he was distillery manager at Ayrshire-based Lochlea for four years.
His successor, Bulloch, is familiar with the Lowland area having been born and raised in the village of Menstrie, which is 15 miles from Rosebank.
Bulloch was previously head of distilling at Lowland distillery Bladnoch.
Rennie will remain at Ian Macleod Distillers, owner of Rosebank, but will now shift his focus into putting the company’s newest distillery, Islay’s Laggan Bay, on the map – which is still under construction. He will become Laggan Bay’s distillery manager.
Rosebank commented on the ‘passing of the torch’ move with a statement on LinkedIn, first in regards to Rennie, reading: “Malcolm has meticulously overseen the recommissioning of Rosebank Distillery. His expertise in setting up new and revived distilleries has been invaluable, and now he takes his skills to Laggan Bay Distillery on Islay, which is still under construction.”
The company thanked Rennie for “his tireless efforts and commitment” to the distillery.
Looking to the future with Bulloch, it said: “Neil is very excited about taking on his new role at Rosebank Distillery, where production only restarted in June 2023 following 30 years of closure. It’s an exciting and important time in the distillery’s history, and he looks forward to making his mark.”
Bulloch added: “I can’t wait to see how the new spirit matures and to be involved in the future releases of Rosebank whisky when the time is right. I couldn’t be prouder to be joining such a respected name in the whisky world. I’m very proud to come back to the area where I grew up and be part of such a great story for Falkirk.”
Rosebank was originally mothballed in 1993 before Ian Macleod Distillers secured an £80 million (US$105m) refinancing package to restore the facility to its former glory, with many old features from its original run intact, alongside modern updates.
Rosebank’s return was one of our top distillery openings from 2024.
