Glengoyne unveils 10th Teapot Dram

Ian Macleod Distillers-owned Glengoyne Distillery has released the 10th batch of its limited edition Teapot Dram series.

The latest release in the limited edition range by Glengoyne pays homage to an old distillery tradition where workers received daily drams throughout their shifts.

Back then, each worker was given three fingers of whisky twice daily from Monday to Thursday and three times on a Friday.

Most distilleries offered workers new make spirit straight off the stills, but Glengoyne offered tumblers of whisky from first-fill Sherry casks.

According to the story, it was common for less seasoned team members to discreetly pour their untouched drams into a copper teapot on the canteen windowsill, ready for their older colleagues to enjoy later.

Honouring the tradition, the Teapot Dram is a high-ABV, Sherry-matured limited edition release.

Batch No 010 has been matured exclusively in first-fill European and American Oak Sherry casks and bottled at 59.4% ABV.

Limited to 3,600 bottles, the whisky is available exclusively via the Glengoyne website and the distillery shop for £140 (US$182).

Duncan McNicoll, former Glengoyne head stillman and ‘teapot drammer’, said: “We’re pleased to share the 10th edition of Teapot Dram – it truly bottles up how we do things at Glengoyne.

“What you are getting with the Teapot Dram is something that replicates what we drank back in the day— natural strength and heavily sherried. The long notes of dried sherry, Christmas cake, and the softness from the vanilla took me right back to those dramming days, and it feels fitting that Batch 010 feels celebratory with hints of sweet cake.

“A fan favourite, it is always an exciting time at the distillery when the latest dram is unveiled, and we look forward to hearing what our community thinks of this decadent dram.”

Earlier this year, Glengoyne introduced its new White Oak range matured in American first-fill Bourbon and virgin oak casks.

In May, Ian Macleod partnered with The Islay Boys to build the 12th Islay distillery, Laggan Bay.
