Three Chord was founded by American songwriter Neil Giraldo in 2018 and is recognised for its innovative cask finishes and philanthropic work in the music community.

The new expression is the 2024 edition of the brand’s Backstage Series, which sees it team up with musicians to release custom signature blends.

The 2024 Backstage Series – The Allman Brothers Band Bourbon was created in collaboration with the Allman Brothers Band estate and David Spero, who is the long-time manager of the late Dickey Betts, the band’s founding member, who passed away in April this year.

Allman Brothers Band was formed in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1969, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.

Three Chord’s new Bourbon is inspired by the band’s Eat a Peach album and is highlighted by a toasted peach wood finish.

John Lee Johnson (also known as Jaimoe), the only surviving original member of the band, said: “If you like whiskey, you will dig our collaboration with Three Chord Bourbon. It’s a celebration of our legacy. Far out man. The Road Goes on Forever.”

Ari Sussman, whiskey maker at Three Chord Bourbon, added: “The music of the Allman Brothers Band is part of our culture, and has been part of my soundtrack as far back as I can remember. Collaborating with them has been an honour.

“We set out to make a whiskey with bold, distinctive aromas and flavours, while incorporating elements from the band’s iconography. After various prototypes, we decided to focus on toasted peach wood. Though not commonly used in whiskey production, peach wood can impart sweetness, structure and a hint of smoke that enhances the whiskey base.”

The Bourbon is described as having aromas of ‘spice, vanilla, toasted wood, and caramel’, while its palate is ‘smooth and sweet’ with an added complexity from the use of toasted peach wood. The finish has notes of sweetness, spice and caramel, and is ‘long and balanced’.

Sitting at 47.5% ABV, it will retail for US$49.99.

Limited in availability, pre orders can be made now with shipping carried out on 26 August.
