Glen Moray ages whisky in Rioja casks
La Martiniquaise-Bardinet-owned Glen Moray distillery in Speyside has launched two new whiskies as part of its Warehouse 1 Collection.
Glen Moray distillery in Elgin has introduced two limited edition, small batch expressions that explore the influence of Rioja wine casks on whisky.
Glen Moray 2015 Rioja Matured and Glen Moray 2012 Peated Rioja Finish were created from the distillery’s earliest experiments with Spanish wine casks.
“The whiskies of our Warehouse 1 Collection are among some of our most intriguing and experimental single malts. And these two limited editions aged in Rioja red wine casks are sure to appeal to inquisitive whisky enthusiasts,” said Iain Allan, brand ambassador of Glen Moray.
“Deep and fruity, with notes of cherries, plums and leather, Glen Moray Rioja Matured is a dram as rich as it is rare. With its gentle smoke and plummy tastes, Glen Moray Peated Rioja Finish is a fascinatingly different take on Glen Moray.”
Aged for eight years entirely in Rioja casks, Glen Moray 2015 Rioja Matured is offered at a cask strength of 59.8% ABV.
Glen Moray 2012 Peated Rioja Finish is an 11-year-old expression made with lightly peated barley and finished in wine casks. The whisky is bottled at 58.8% ABV.
The two new whiskies will be available in limited quantities in the UK, France, the US, the Netherlands, Japan, Sweden, and from the Glen Moray distillery.
Warehouse 1 Collection, first introduced in 2020, includes single malts finished in Amarone, Amontillado, Barolo, Tokaji, Manzanilla and Sauternes casks.
In April this year, La Martiniquaise-Bardinet’s Saint James agricole rum launched a limited edition 18-year-old expression.
