Fair adds French touch to Mexican whisky
French spirits brand Fair has added a Oaxaca whisky aged in Cognac casks to its range.
The company is Fairtrade-certified and was founded in 2009. As part of its certification, it pays producers a guaranteed minimum price that is on average 15% higher than the market price; it adheres to 200 rules and standards, including safe working conditions and environmental responsibilities; and it gives 1% of its revenues to community development funds.
The new whisky is made from ancestral blue corn sourced from Oaxaca, which the brand says has been grown in the area for 9,000 years.
It is double-distilled in copper alembic stills before being aged for four years in Bourbon casks in Mexico. The whisky is then finished for six months to a year in virgin Limousin oak casks in Cognac.
It is bottled at 46% ABV and retails for €59.90 (US$64) for a 700ml bottle.
It is currently available in France and will soon arrive in the UK.
As well as the Oaxaca whisky, Fair offers a range of liqueurs, including kumquat, elderflower and açai varieties, and gin, rum and vodka.
Fair works with EcoSpirits to reduce its carbon footprint in key markets.
