Sir Edmond Gin names competition winner
Dutch brand Sir Edmond Gin has crowned Andre Montijn of The Peacock Bar the winner of its sound-pairing competition.
The competition saw bartenders make cocktails inspired by a song that moves them, switching up food and drinks pairings to music.
Held at LuminAir Amsterdam on 16 October, the finalists were narrowed down to 10 bartenders who showcased their cocktail crafting skills in effort to win a €1,000 (US$1,066) prize.
Montijn was chosen for his ‘Lady Blue Berry’ creation, which consisted of Sir Edmond Gin, homemade blueberry and lavender cordial, clarified orange juice, Liquore Strega, Lillet Blanc, and toasted almond bitters.
It won the judges over with its taste, presentation, and overall experience, with Montijn using Jean Knight’s Mr Big Stuff as his chosen track for the pairing.
Of his triumph, he said: “Even when you put two different beautiful birds together in a competition – the one rebellious, and the other confident – they can be the best pairing there is.”
Gianinni Statia, part of the judging panel and brand activation manager of Sir Edmond Gin, said the competition was “filled with exceptional talent and amazing concepts” and the high quality of drinks made judging difficult with everyone “a winner in their own way”.
Montijn got the nod because he ”seamlessly integrated a masterful blend of creativeness and presented a total package that simply left the judges awestruck’’.
”His execution set him apart, embodying the very essence of excellence that graced this unique competition,” Statia added.
Maicol Vargas, from bar Sonora, finished runner up for his Bachata cocktail paired with the Dominican dance, while Alina Lucia of Flying Dutchman Cocktails secured third place for her cocktail named The Affair.
Dominique Makatita, co-founder of Sir Edmond Gin, spoke of the event’s success: “Gratitude flows effortlessly as we extend our heartfelt thanks to all the remarkable participants of this extraordinary competition.
”Their passion and dedication to crafting nothing but delightful and tasty cocktails has left us utterly amazed.
”We as a brand are very inspired by all the creative concepts that we have seen. Here’s to each and every participant who has elevated the art of mixology to new, musical heights.”
Sir Edmond Gin recently debuted gift sets and in August, the brand partnered with the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) to offer a donation to the charity for every bottle it sells.
