Greek brand Mataroa Mediterranean Dry Gin has teamed up with bartender Marcos Chorattides, of Last Word Bar in Cyprus, to create a signature cocktail.

Chorattides is the founder and bartender of Grecian drinks venue Last Word Bar, in Limassol, Cyprus.

He has created signature cocktail the Mediterranean Gimlet, which showcases the ‘delicate and distinct’ botanicals of the Mataroa blend and uses chamomile as a key ingredient.

The cocktail includes a cordial, which is made using local chamomile, which is cold brewed into tea and then fermented to add acidity.

The cordial is stirred to ‘enhance’ the Cyprus chamomile. Chorattides said that the perfect cocktail includes a “selected base spirit and locally harvested produce”, and always keeping sustainability in mind.

The gin brand has previously teamed up with bartender Hyacinthe Lescoët of Paris’ The Cambridge Public House to introduce a signature cocktail inspired by the brand’s botanicals.

Lescoët crafted a Mataroa signature cocktail using a key ingredient of juniper berries from Croatia, which is a symbol of youth, fertility and longevity, according to the brand.

In November last year, the Greek gin brand partnered with bartender Christos Gkolfis to create a signature cocktail called The Chloe. Gkolfis’ key ingredient in the Chloe is lemon peels from Egypt, which added a citrus smell and sweet-sour taste to the serve.

In October, the brand partnered with local airline Aegean to host 10 bars in its airport lounges.

Mataroa rolled out a limited edition bottle in September in collaboration with designer Themis Zouganeli.

Mataroa Gin is distilled and bottled in Greece.
