Burleighs Gin seeks buyer

English gin producer Burleighs has been put up for sale, several weeks after the Leicestershire-based distillery temporarily closed.

On 7 November, Burleighs announced on Facebook that it had temporarily shut the distillery, stopped orders and postponed its events. The company said it would contact ticketholders for its on-site Gin Academy in due course.

“We thank you for your patience and understanding in the matter and will update with more information as soon as we can,” the post said.

A vague notice on the website said the distiller is “unable to take orders at the moment due to unforeseen circumstances”.

Burleighs Gin did not respond to a request for comment.

A listing on property consultant Lambert Smith Hampton’s (LSH) website said it had been instructed by the director of Burleighs Holdings and Burleighs Gin to offer for sale the business and its assets.

According to the notice, the gin producer’s turnover for the year ended January 2021 reached £518,000 (US$628,580). Turnover for the following 12 month-period declined to £515,000.

Founded in 2014, Burleighs produces around 600 bottles per batch, and uses an Arnold Holstein SH 1000 450-litre pot still.

The distiller has provided gins for organisations including local rugby team Leicester Tigers, Leicester City Football Club, Royal British Legion, the National Forest and Smeg.

LSH is asking for offers for the business and assets to be submitted by midday on Thursday 1 December 2022.

In July 2017, Burleighs refuted a report that the company was going into administration.

In February last year, Burleighs Gin secured a £250,000 (US$354,000) investment to expand into new markets.

The company has made several fundraising efforts in recent years, including surpassing its £100,000 (US$130,000) fundraising target to support the development of new products and raising just under £500,000 (US$644,850) worth of investment in one month.
