Warner’s becomes B Corp-certified

English gin producer Warner’s Distillery has become the 10th distillery in the UK to achieve B Corp certification.

The gin distillery was awarded the certification by B Lab

Warner’s Distillery received the certification from non-profit organisation B Lab, which accredits companies with B Corp certification after they meet or exceed the B Impact Assessment criteria.

The criteria measures a firm’s social impact across categories. These requirements include corporate governance, the environment, community, employees and customers.

Founder and chief executive officer Tom Warner said: “As the spirit of the British countryside, sustainability really is at the heart of everything we do, it’s not just lip service for us. We believe in doing the right thing, by people and the planet. That’s why we craft our spirits in harmony with nature, at our home on Falls Farm in rural Northamptonshire.”

Warner’s Distillery was founded in 2012.

“As we approach our 10th birthday, we’re incredibly proud of the work we do to support with our vision to become the most nature positive drinks business in the world,” added Warner.

“From the action-led projects we are involved with in our local area, to launching a first-of-its-kind, national pub accreditation scheme and joining initiatives such as 1% For The Planet and B Corp, there’s so much to celebrate. This is just the beginning.”

In 2021, the distillery appointed Hi-Spirits as its UK distributor.

Chris Turner, executive director of B Lab UK, commented that there is “a movement of companies who are committed to changing how business operates” and focusing on being a “force for good”.

“We know that Warner’s are going to be a fantastic addition to the community and will continue driving the conversation forward,” he said. “B Corps demonstrate that you can do good in any sector. Welcoming Warner’s is an exciting moment because they have an opportunity to lead the way within the spirits industry.

“Their commitment to doing business differently will be an inspiration to others and really help spread the idea that we can redefine success in business to be as much about people and planet as it is about profit.”

In August, Altos Planos-owned Mijenta became the first Tequila to receive B Corp certification. We sat down with its ex-Bacardi CEO Mike Dolan to discuss the achievement.
