Aluminium screw caps have seen a rise in demand

According to data from Euromonitor International, supplied by Aluminium Closures Group, volume use of screw caps in Europe passed seven billion in 2021.

In Europe, usage was up by 20% when looking at on-trade consumption.

Outside of Europe, the use of aluminium closures rose by nearly 6% in both the on-trade and off-trade.

Anja Holthoff-Schlegel, Aluminium Closures Group representative, said: “While the numbers are still under 2019 volumes, they indicate a welcome return to growth, particularly in Europe and particularly in on-trade sales.

“Undoubtedly, the figures for the rest of the world, by far the biggest market, are still weak.

“But the factors affecting manty of these countries, such as ongoing tourism and travel restrictions as well as more lockdowns, continued to weigh and, even here, on-trade showed healthy positive growth. The current 12 months should see stronger recovery in all areas.”

The rise in demand for aluminium closures was attributed to the return to growth for spirits in 2021, following the pandemic challenges of 2020.

According to IWSR Drinks Market Analysis data, supplied by Aluminium Closures Group, global consumption of alcohol spirits rose by 3% in 2021, after dropping by 6% in 2020.

In Europe, volume consumption grew by 9% in 2021.

In other packaging news, earlier this month news broke that hybrid packaging supplier Berlin Packaging had completed its ninth acquisition this year with the purchase of Discoglass.
