Kavalan debuts Triple Sherry Cask

Taiwanese whisky distiller Kavalan has launched a new expression matured in three different Sherry casks.

Kavalan has unveiled its first whisky matured in three different Sherry casks

The new Triple Sherry Cask is described as a ‘rare’ combination of oloroso, Pedro Ximénez (PX) and Moscatel-aged casks with Kavalan’s ‘velvety texture and signature sweetness’.

After the whisky is fully matured in the three casks, it is laid to rest in marrying vats through a three-stage process.

“During this process, the flavours collide through a myriad combination of the three Sherry cask whiskies, creating up to nine distinct Sherry dimensions,” explained senior blender Zerose Yang.

“With its main character, the dried fruits of the oloroso cask, Triple Sherry is embellished with the sweetness of PX and Moscatel casks.”

The resulting liquid offers notes of cinnamon, candied smoked plum, and citrus, layered with a nose of berry, tropical fruits, and longan, alongside a dash of honey, chocolate, and toffee on the palate.

Kavalan CEO YT Lee added: “This is the first time we’ve combined our whisky in three different Sherry casks. It’s all about multiplying and enriching the Sherry flavours to make a distinct whisky that has dried fruits, rich caramel, sweet maltose and tropical fruits as its profile.”

The design of the whisky features white, gold and red colours to represent the multi-layered tastes of the expression. The tin includes a double silver line to represent the Central Mountain and Snow Mountain ranges surrounding the Taiwanese distillery.

Bottled at 40% ABV, Triple Sherry Cask is priced at RRP NT$2,300 (US$82.60) per 700ml bottle. It will launch first in France, Canada, Japan, Singapore, China, India, the Philippines, Russia, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and Guam.

In July this year, Kavalan revealed an exclusive gift set series inspired by the country’s exotic animal species.

Last November, the distillery launched a limited edition series of whiskies in collaboration with artist Paul Chiang.
