The short film, called The Ones Who Keep Walking, communicates the message of the whisky campaign through various African artists.

Director and filmmaker Amarachi Nwosu commented: “Making The Ones Who Keep Walking with Johnnie Walker was an opportunity to tell a story that reimagines how we see Africa and the creative renaissance taking place.

“Telling powerful stories from the Afrofuturist lens is what inspires me, so having the opportunity to shine a light on these amazing people and their incredible journeys, all whilst showcasing the spirit and beauty that embodies Africa, is a dream come true. I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”

The Ones Who Keep Walking features 20 voices from across Africa, including musician CKay, from Nigeria; rapper Sampa the Great, from Zambia; and dancer and artist Kamo Mphela, from South Africa; plus more.

The piece follows the latest global marketing push in Johnnie Walker’s Keep Walking campaign, a TV and digital advert focused on encouraging optimism as the world reopens.

Johnnie Walker global marketing director Johanna Dalley added: “At Johnnie Walker we’re always looking to celebrate the stories of those who take bold steps to make life richer.

“Those stories that so often showcase a powerful spirit of defiant optimism are the perfect embodiment of our Keep Walking philosophy – an idea that feels incredibly relevant in the world right now.

Amarachi Nwosu is someone whose passion for social inclusion, equality and representation has really resonated with us and we hope people will feel inspired to continue to take bold steps after watching it.”

The Ones Who Keep Walking is the latest instalment in the brand’s short films for the campaign, and follows The Man Who Walked Around the World, which was released in November 2020.

The video is being broadcast across Africa through channels Africa Magic Family, Maisha Magic East, Zambezi Magic, Mzansi Magic, Mzansi Wethu, Channel O and TV5 Monde.

Johnnie Walker recently concluded its Masters series, releasing 288 bottles of the third and final whisky in the line for £20,000 (US$26,879) each.
