Launched in summer 2020, Ron Cabezon is a five-year-old gold rum, blended from liquid sourced from the Dominican Republic and Guyana.

The rum from Guyana and the Dominican Republic is split into two batches, which are then put through two processes.

This includes fruit maceration for a few weeks, the addition of Arabian cubebs, said to give a ‘slight smokiness’ to the final flavour, and the inclusion of West African kola nuts. The rum is finished with a touch of honey and Madagascan vanilla.

Ron Cabezon is blended and distilled at the Lost Loch Distillery in Aboyne, Scotland. Bottled at 41% ABV, the rum retails for RRP £34.95 (US$50) per 700ml bottle.

Ron Cabezon has also been working with Huffmans, and is present in independent whisky stores across Scotland in Aberdeen, Inverurie, Chesterfield, Dunkeld and more.

Fraser Graham, marketing director, said: “It’s incredible to see the steady growth across the independent stores, as well as signing on with two national distributors.

“The reviews have been incredible and given us loads of confidence, although it is still early in our journey. The rum market has been growing for several years in the UK and looks set to continue.”

The brand’s parent company, Cabezon Beverage, was founded by managing director David Smith, inspired by his time living and working in Barcelona, Spain.

After a ‘successful’ first year, Ron Cabezon is eyeing continued growth in the off-trade.

However, the brand also intends to grow its presence in the on-trade as the sector reopens, having already secured listings with several bars in Aberdeen, Scotland. Ron Cabezon is also in discussions with venues in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Ron Cabezon will work towards international expansion in 2022.
