Only after sampling more than 30 varieties of Madeira wine did the Henderson Family decide on the cask for their third Cellar Collection release

Angel’s Envy Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey finished in Madeira casks has been created in celebration of Father’s Day (20 June).

With a limited run of 3,360 bottles, the 50% ABV whiskey has undergone an ‘extended finishing period’ of longer than six months in Madeira barrels to add ‘deeper wood notes and an extra layer of complexity’.

On the nose, it is said to have notes of caramelised banana, brown sugar, raisins, almonds and cherry, with a palate of oak, grass, smoke, leather, chocolate and dried cherries, plus an  almond and hazelnut finish.

From 21 May, members of 500 Main, Angel’s Envy’s online club, can enter a lottery for a chance to purchase one of 600 bottles ahead of public sale, which will open on 6 June.

Angel’s Envy’s co-founder and chief innovation officer, Wes Henderson, said: “There’s deep history and craftsmanship involved in the production of Madeira wine, so my sons and I knew we wanted to tap into that to create something special for our Cellar Collection.

“We tried more than 30 varieties until we found the perfect casks that would lend both the dryness of a good Sherry and the richness of tawny Port to our Bourbon.

“This release was a family effort, so it feels only right to share this bourbon with our fans in celebration of Father’s Day.”

The whiskey will be released for public sale at Angel’s Envy’s distillery and in select retailers in Kentucky, New York, California, Florida, Tennessee, Illinois and Texas.

The expression is the third release in the Angel’s Envy Cellar Collection series, and has a suggested RRP of US$229.99 per 750ml bottle.
