Distell GTR appoints general manager for Asia Pacific

Bunnahabhain Scotch whisky owner Distell Global Travel Retail (GTR) has named a new general manager for Asia Pacific and an exclusive distributor for South Korea to boost its presence in the region.

Derek Scott has taken up the position of general manager, Asia Pacific travel retail

Derek Scott has taken up the position of general manager, Asia Pacific travel retail, with immediate effect. He previously worked as brand director – malts and black bottle at Distell.

Scott has 20 years’ experience in the drinks industry working across senior marketing and commercial roles at Beam Suntory, Burn Stewart Distillers, and CL World Brands.

Meanwhile, Fabrice International is now Distell’s distributor for South Korea duty free and travel retail.

Luke Maga, Distell GTR manging director, said: “As Asia Pacific leads the recovery for the global travel retail channel, the key changes made to our travel retail business strengthen our position as we look to capitalise on opportunities in the region.

“Derek’s wealth of experience, coupled with Fabrice International’s expertise in South Korea, will be instrumental in growing awareness of our single malt portfolio in Asia Pacific.”

Fabrice International will work with South Korean duty free retailers, such as Lotte Duty Free and Shinsegae Duty Free.

In August this year, Distell released eight limited edition Scotch whiskies, including two from Islay distillery Bunnahabhain and three from Tobermory.

Like many companies, Distell has been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic this year. The South African drinks group saw its fiscal 2020 revenue fall by 14.6% due to the alcohol bans in its home market.
