Bowmore creates exclusive whiskies for Heinemann

Beam Suntory has partnered with duty free operator Heinemann to offer two exclusive single cask Bowmore whiskies at airports in Frankfurt and Istanbul.

Bowmore 1995 and Bowmore 1997 offer the brand’s “signature rich fruit and balanced smoke”

The new limited edition single malt whiskies, Bowmore 1995 and Bowmore 1997, have matured in first-fill Bourbon hogshead casks in the distillery’s No.1 Vaults, the oldest Scotch maturation warehouse in the world.

Matured for 22 years, the Bowmore 1997 is limited to 236 bottles and will be available to buy from Heinemann’s Frankfurt Airport store from 21 November, priced at €399 (US$471) per 700ml.

The 52.6% ABV whisky offers light peat and cooked seaweed on the nose, along with clover honey, Madagascan vanilla pod, and lightly crushed hazelnuts. The palate is “sweet and salty with notes of pancake, lemon juice and sugar”.

Meanwhile, the 1995 offering was matured for 24 years and bottled at 53.3% ABV. It is limited to 234 bottles, which are available to buy from 28 November at Heinemann’s outlet in Istanbul Airport for €499 (US$589) per 700ml.

The expression has a “lightly peated” nose with sweet and spice notes, along with herbal, dry thyme, mint and eucalyptus notes.

The palate offers “light peat reek and bonfire, with spicy and sweet heather honey, mead, floral notes of lilies of the valley and magnolia”, as well as savoury notes of barbecued pork ribs and seaweed.

Ed Stening, global marketing director at Beam Suntory International Global Travel Retail, said: “Bowmore is one of the most collectable and iconic whisky brands in the world and both of these exceptional single malts display the signature rich fruit and balanced smoke that makes Bowmore famous.

“As with any single cask, we’ll never be able to recreate the exact profile again so these prized bottles offer a unique glimpse into the world of Bowmore that only a select handful of world travellers will get to experience.

“We are very excited to be working with Heinemann to offer these brilliant single cask expressions exclusively to their customers.”

Each bottle comes in a presentation box printed with the skylines and landmarks of the cities where they can be purchased.

In September this year, Beam Suntory overhauled its operating model in travel retail. The company recently released a new Jim Beam Bourbon exclusively for global travel retail, called Lineage.
