Seignette VS Cognac hits the UK

US drinks group Sazerac has launched Seignette VS Cognac in the UK to attract new consumers to the category.

Seignette VS Cognac is said to be a “breath of fresh air for the Cognac category”

The new expression is described as a “contemporary homage” to the original Seignette Cognac, which was established 200 years ago.

The Seignette family can trace its roots back to the 17th century and were known as leaders in salt and Cognac trading in La Rochelle, France. The family’s coat of arms features a swan, which is depicted on the Seignette VS label.

The VS Cognac has notes of dried apricot, vanilla and honeysuckle on the nose, followed by oaky vanilla and citrus on the palate.

The Cognac was also created to inspire bartenders and can be used as the base in a number of cocktails due to its versatility.

“Any new product launch is an exciting moment, and for us launching Seignette in the UK has extra special meaning,” said Clive Carpenter, general manager, Domaine Sazerac de Segonzac.

“We are bringing this historic brand back to the country where it was most in demand in the 19th century.

“This is a Cognac for those people who think Cognac isn’t for them, introducing a new style of enjoying the spirit, complete with a contemporary design and flavour profile.

“We hope the launch of Seignette will be a breath of fresh air for the Cognac category in the UK market.”

The new bottling will be distributed in the UK through Sazerac’s subsidiary Hi-Spirits.

Seignette VS Cognac is available to buy in the UK from Waitrose, priced at RRP £32 (US$41.50) per 700ml bottle.

Last year, Sazerac restored its Sazerac de Forge & Fils Cognac brand. The company acquired Cognac house Domaine Breuil de Segonzac in late 2016.
