William Grant charity auction raises £100,409

Glenfiddich owner William Grant & Sons has raised £100,409 (US$132,300) from its online charity auction, which will be donated to The Drinks Trust and The Ben in Scotland.

The Balvenie Morgan vintage-style car sold for £31,500 during the charity auction

The #StandFast Charity Auction took place online via Whisky.Auction from 19-28 July, and was hosted by William Grant & Sons’ brands, including Hendrick’s Gin, Glenfiddich, The Balvenie, Monkey Shoulder, Sailor Jerry, Tullamore Dew, Drambuie, Reyka Vodka and more.

Chris Gardner, CEO of The Ben in Scotland, said: “We want to thank all the brands involved in donating such fantastic items to this auction and are overwhelmed by the amount of money that has been raised. This donation enables us to continue helping the hospitality industry in Scotland.”

The highlight of the 300-strong auction was The Balvenie Morgan four-seater roadster, which sold for £31,500 (US$41,500) and came with a trip to the Morgan factory.

A trip to the Glenfiddich Distillery in Speyside and a weekend in Iceland, home to Reyka Vodka, raised nearly £10,000 (US$13,100) collectively.

Participants also had the opportunity to bid on a trip to the Hendrick’s Gin Palace in Scotland and meet master distiller Leslie Gracie, which ultimately sold for £6,000 (US$7,900). An Eastwood Airline Tremolectric electric guitar adorned with a Sailor Jerry tattoo graphic also raised £850 (US$1,120).

Both charities will use the money raised to offer “significant” financial, vocational and mental health support to hospitality workers who have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ross Carter, CEO of The Drinks Trust, said: “The level of support that William Grant & Sons has shown towards The Drinks Trust’s work through Covid-19 has been second to none.

“This is a very significant sum of money and will help support numerous people in need of help in this difficult time. This, added to the significant donations made by William Grant & Sons in recent months have been humbling. Thank you to all the William Grant & Sons team and to all the successful bidders of the #StandFast Charity Auction.”

Total funds given to The Drinks Trust and The Ben in Scotland to date through William Grant’s Stand Fast Campaign totalled £260,000 (US$342,500).
