Kavalan launches entry-level Distillery Select No. 2

Taiwanese producer Kavalan has created a second entry-level whisky as part of its Distillery Select Series.

Kavalan’s entry-level Distillery Select Series

The newly formed Distillery Select Series is described as the “first entry-level whisky range that offers a superior art of blending”.

The range takes its name from Kavalan’s first entry-level whisky, Distillery Select No. 1, which launched in November 2018.

The whisky is described as having “ripened tropical fruits, fragrant floral notes and warm vanilla” on the nose, while the palate brings “rich and complex layers of butterscotch, creamy toffee and vanilla”.

No. 1 has been repackaged with a new sticker on the front of the bottle. Its recipe has not been altered, Kavalan said.

Kavalan Distillery Select No. 2 was released in Taiwan last week (29 April) with an RRP of NTD$1,000 (US$33.50) per 700ml bottle. The whisky will soon be released globally.

It is described as “deeply aromatic with an irresistible floral and herbal complexity, blending woody and spicy notes in rich layers”.

The 40% ABV collection has been designed to “satisfy both whisky beginners and connoisseurs”.

Kavalan CEO Yt Lee said: “In this range, drinkers will get all the benefit of our team’s fine craftsmanship at a surprising price point. We are doing things a little differently. We’re pursuing the flavour profile first, rather than a particular cask.

“For our first whisky, we emphasise tropical fruits and for the second whisky, floral and herbal notes. Each whisky in this range showcases different facets of Kavalan’s distinct character. Every expression delivers high quality at a friendly price.”

The Distillery Select Series sits alongside existing Kavalan ranges, Solist and Rare Sherries.

In January last year, Kavalan launched its inaugural gin.
