World Whisky Forum moves stateside for 2020 event

The World Whisky Forum is heading to the US for its third event, which will follow the theme of ‘growing flavour’.

Louise McGuane of the Chapel Gate Irish Whisky Company will speak at the forum

Taking place on 18-20 February at Seattle’s Westland Distillery, the event will see four panels discuss whisky’s role in agriculture, the role of innovation and “potential pathways ahead” for North American distillers.

Among the speakers at this year’s event are Cory Mason, master distiller at UK-based Oxford Artisan Distillery; Shinji Fukuyo from Suntory; Nicole Austin, Cascade Hollow Distilling Co; Ann Marshall from High Wire Distilling; and Steven Kersley of BrewDog Distilling in Scotland.

Talks and seminars held across the forum include How to Move Tradition, which features appearances from Ireland’s Chapel Gate Whiskey Co founder Louise McGuane and UK-based Lakes Distillery chief whisky maker Dhavall Gandhi, and Raw Materials Matter with Matt Hofmann of Westland Distillery and Douglas Tayler from Islay-based Bruichladdich.

The World Whisky Forum was founded in 2017 by Jan Groth of Sweden’s High Coast Distillery. Following two successful events in Europe, the forum’s move to the US and the Westland Distillery in Seattle was said to be a “natural next step”.

The second incarnation of the event, which took place in 2018, was held at the Cotswolds Distillery and followed the theme ‘whisky 2020’.
