Vinexpo and Comexposium create joint venture

Wine and spirits trade show Vinexpo has partnered with global event organiser Comexposium to create a joint venture dedicated to the drinks industry.

Vinexpo has entered into a joint venture with Comexposium

The new business, which is yet to be named, aims to become the world’s leading organiser of wine and spirits events, with its events currently attracting more than 78,000 visitors from 140 countries and 5,900 exhibitors annually.

The joint venture will look after 10 existing events: Vinexpo (Bordeaux, Paris, Hong Kong, Shanghai and New York), Vinexpo Explorer events from Vinexpo Holding, Wine Paris (Vinisud, Vinovision Paris), World Wine Meetings and World Bulk Wine Exhibition (Amsterdam and Asia) from Comexposium.

The new entity will also strive to establish new events and developments to support international growth of the wine and spirits industry.

The joint venture is being supported by strategic advisors, including the Vinexpo Strategic Committee and the boards of Vinisud and Vinovision Paris.

Patrick Seguin, president of the Bordeaux-Gironde Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIBG), said: “In a global economic environment, this commitment to working together is a significant step to serve the development of businesses in the wine and spirits sector.

“Thanks to this alliance, the Bordeaux-Gironde Chamber of Commerce and Industry intends to create a powerful flagship brand, which will proudly defend French colours abroad.”

It is hoped that the joining together of Vinexpo and Comexposium under this joint venture will enable both parties to maximise all international development opportunities.

The project is expected to be finalised by summer 2020.

Laurent Noël, Comexposium division director, said: “This alliance will strengthen the international strategy of Comexposium in wines and spirits, and will create value for all stakeholders, with bellwether events and an increasing presence throughout the world.”

In May last year, Vinexpo and Comexposium revealed their two events – Vinexpo Paris and Wine Paris – would take place at the same time, in the same venue in the French capital this year. The shows are due to be held from 10 to 12 February, aimed at global buyers, producers and brands.

Rodolphe Lameyse, CEO of Vinexpo, said: “By bringing our skills and expertise closer together, the professionals in the wine and spirits sector will have a key partner for their business development, able to support them year-round and throughout the world.”

At the end of 2019, Lameyse told The Spirits Business that Vinexpo could launch a dedicated spirits show in 2021 if all goes well at the inaugural Paris event this year.
