Buffalo Trace hosts live chainsaw-carving exhibition

Bourbon brand Buffalo Trace hosted a live chainsaw-sculpting exhibition in London this week in partnership with artist Griffon Ramsey.

The exhibition took place from 13-15 December at Stolen Space in Shoreditch, London, during which Ramsey carved a giant buffalo out of red wood trunks, using a selection of chainsaws.

Gas-powered chainsaws were used to carve the body of the buffalo, while an electric chainsaw was used for more intricate details.

Buffalo Trace chose to partner with Ramsey due to her “dedication to craftsmanship”, which the brand said “emulates the distillery workers’ commitment to their craft”.

The gallery opened to the public on Monday (16 December), allowing consumers to view the sculpted artwork and sample Buffalo Trace.

Kris Comstock, Buffalo Trace Distillery senior marketing director, said: “We’re thrilled to be bringing the American heritage and craftsmanship of Buffalo Trace to life in the UK in such a unique way.”

Comstock flew to the UK from Kentucky for the public opening. Speaking to The Spirits Business ahead of the buffalo’s unveiling, he said: “Griffon very much does her own thing. She’s incredibly talented and the craftsmanship that goes into her carving is amazing.

“So we are just thrilled to be able to have her carve our buffalo. Similar to Griffon, we are very much a distillery that beats to its own drum.

“What we do, and what Griffon does, it takes talent and patience. This is a very cool partnership to be part of.”
