Cask Trade launches as whisky cask marketplace

An entrepreneur has partnered with numerous spirits professionals to launch Cask Trade, a marketplace for trading whisky casks.

Cask Trade offers a marketplace to trade whisky casks

Cask Trade was founded in 2018 with an aim to provide an “open and honest marketplace” for whisky collectors, investors and bottlers.

Based in Regent Street, London, Cask Trade will only sell whisky casks it owns, as a whole. It is not a whisky cask broker and does not offer fractional sales.

Cask Trade has also started the “first” live auction website dedicated to whisky casks: auctionyourcask.com.

Founder Simon Aron said: “We are not brokers, but stockists. Our aim is to build a true and safe marketplace.

“We are six experts covering all angles of the cask whisky trade and we have clients from all around the world. Having traded thousands of casks, our knowledge of whisky and its value is our most valuable asset.

“There are real trust issues in this market with too many companies offering guaranteed percentage returns. Throughout my 25 years’ of collecting I suffered from all sorts of false promises, which I will never subject my clients to.”

Cask Trade users will be able to take part in regular sampling of their casks and re-gauging of their casks by whisky experts.

Furthermore, buyers will be able to keep up to date with the investment potential of their cask through regular editions of Cask Trade’s Cask Investment Guide. Further details about Cask Trade can be found online at casktrade.com.

One of Cask Trade’s partners is Sir Colin Hampden-White, a keeper of the quaich and one-third of The Three Drinkers, who said cask quality would be “paramount” to the company’s ethos.

He added: “Clarity and honesty are two of the core values that Cask Trade embraces. The quality of the casks is also of paramount importance; sampling and evaluation is carried out by several people to ensure that quality remains high.”

Earlier this year, whisky technology company Uisge Tech launched Caskshare to “transform” the way whisky enthusiasts purchase single cask spirits.
